Having A Ball At Briggs Pool

Over three hundred neighbors and friends celebrated the Briggs Pool Annual Cookout on Sunday afternoon. It was four years ago that the neighborhood and the Attleboro Recreation Department gathered for the soft opening of the pool. Four years ago everyone on the East Side had spent the summer watching the pool under construction.

The contractors put on a push to open the pool for the kids. They got it done and the first cookout was organized. The original cookout crew of dedicated volunteers was on hand again.

Recreation Commissioner Leo Johnson who has been the backbone of the recreation for years was firing up the grills. Councilor Peter Blais who lives in and grew up in the neighborhood arrived early to do anything that needed doing to be certain the kids and their families had a great time.

Ann Maries Nicholson of AACS arrived to do a Neighborhood News segment for our cable access channel. No Briggs Pool Cookout would be complete without DJ Nate Adams providing the tunes. Mayor Kevin Dumas arrived with beach balls for the kids.
(Next year I bet he and Peter let the kids blow up the beach balls.) It was great to visit with Emmett Larkin and check up on his family. Cliff Danue, Recreation’s Go To Guy, made sure everything ran smoothly. Cliff reminded us to thank the Recreation Life Guards for the great job they do every day. Thank you to the lifeguards. We are proud of you.

The kids were courteous and polite. The volunteers mixed with their neighbors. It was a backyard kind of event. You could feel the neighborhood pride. Thank you for inviting My Backyard.
